St. Emile School mourns the loss of Mrs. Cathy Caron...

Monday, February 6, 2012

Dear Families of St. Emile School,

It is with deep sadness that we inform you that Mrs. Cathy Caron passed away peacefully this past Saturday morning, February 4, 2012. As many families are aware, Mrs. Caron had been on medical leave from her Grade 8 teaching position at St. Emile School for the past several months.

This current school year was Mrs. Cathy Caron’s 25th year of serving the school community as the Grade 8 classroom teacher. Mrs. Caron was a very special person to all of us. She never did anything without a passion and zeal for the activity at hand. Whether it was her many years of coaching girls’ basketball, helping organize the annual Grade 8 out-of-province trip, planning retreats with the staff faith development team, putting on a Grade 8 graduation that was second to none, or organizing an annual garage sale in support of those less fortunate in our community, Cathy Caron threw herself into every activity with energy, enthusiasm and compassion.

Cathy Caron was a very faith-filled person. But Cathy did not talk about her faith, as much as she “lived it” daily in all she did for others – students, staff and families alike! She truly was a servant leader who would give you all she could of her heart, mind and energy!

With Mrs. Cathy Caron now home with her Heavenly Father, our thoughts and prayers are with her, husband Jim, their family, friends and everyone who is part of the “St. Emile School family” and has had the honor and privilege of knowing her as a teacher, colleague and friend.

Yours in Christ’s love,

The Staff of St. Emile School

A Message from our principal...

Further to the letter sent home to our families this past Monday, February 6, 2012,, regarding Mrs. Cathy Caron  (Gr. 8 teacher) passing away on Saturday, February 4th, the staff along with Mrs. Caron’s family wish to share that her Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, February 11th, at St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. St. Tim’s is located at 135 John Forsyth Road in River Park South. Father Phil Daley, St. Timothy’s Pastor, will officiate the mass. Following the mass, there will be a reception at the St. Emile School gymnasium.

While we all know that there will be tearful moments at the mass and reception we also know that it will indeed be a “celebration” of Mrs. Cathy Caron’s life! And anyone who knew Mrs. Caron at all knows that she was all about living life to the max in everything she did!

Mrs. Cathy Caron will be missed, but most certainly never forgotten!  Please continue to pray for Mrs. Caron’s husband, Jim, their family, friends and the St. Emile School community who’ve been so very blessed by this special person we can call teacher, colleague, and good friend!

At St. Emile School, the month of February has a number of important activities and events taking place including: Heart and Stroke  Month, “I Love to Read” Month, Catholic Schools Week, Lent and Easter, and the Grade 8 out-of- province trip fundraiser – a.k.a.”The Bud, Spud & Steak Night!”

During Heart and Stroke Month, our students from K-8 will participate in the Jump Rope for Heart (K-4) and Hoops for Heart (Grades’ 5-8) activities, allowing them to collect pledges for such an excellent cause as heart and stroke disease prevention and research.

“I Love to Read” month promotes one of the most important activities for our children’s development – reading!  Popular activities include “Stop, Drop, and Read”, where all students and staff in the entire school building “stop” to read their favorite book for 15 minutes daily! A second very popular activity is our “guest readers” who come in, representing various professions or occupations, to read a story to our students and then share why reading has been such an important activity for them, and why it’s important to our students’ learning as well!

Being part of the network of 17 Catholic schools in Manitoba encourages St. Emile to participate in an annual  “spirit week” know as Catholic Schools’ Week (CSW) from Monday – Friday, February 13th – 17th! During CSW, students and staff are involved in a variety of theme-related activities both inside and outside of the school! An outline of these activities can be found on the reverse side of our February calendar!

CSW culminates with Catholic Schools Day on Friday, February 17th, when our schools are closed and all of Manitoba Catholic schools’ educators meet and make connections relating to various faith-related topics. The theme for this year’s day is “Gifts of the Eucharist.”

The Wednesday following Catholic Schools Week, marks the beginning of what Christians worldwide believe to be the most important time on the liturgical calendar, Lent and Easter!  Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (February 22nd), when Christians have their foreheads marked with ashes to represent the wrong we do to others. Lent is 40 days long, which represents the length of time Jesus spent in the desert. The Lenten season is a time for Christians to grow in their faith by serving others less fortunate,  prayer, and reflection. The Lenten season culminates with Easter, when Christians celebrate the mystery of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and life everlasting!

All the best in the month of February, everyone.

Yours in Christ,

Bill Yaworsky
