About the Grade 4 Program...

Math: The class uses a workbook from a program called Jump Math developed by Dr. John Mighton. Supplemental Problem of the Week questions originate from Math Quest 2000.

Social Studies: Manitoba, Canada, and the North: Places and Stories builds directly upon the Grade Three program and focuses upon Canadian communities and their significance to people’s lives. Students will examine geography, history, and develop related mapping skills.

French: French is taught four times a cycle, three times by me and once by Ms. Schilling. The program in use is AIMS Language Learning and entitled Histoires en action! If you have any questions or concerns regarding the program, please contact me directly at the school.

Science:  There are four clusters entitled Habitats and Communities, Sound, Light, and Rocks and Minerals.

Religion: The Year Four program is called Come and See. It builds upon the first cycle of the Born of the Spirit series enabling the student to personally experience, through reflection on Scripture and celebration, the way that the life and teachings of Christ are integrated into our lives as believers.

Art and Music: The Musicplay program will utilize recorders, voice, djembe drums, and Orff instruments.

Language Arts: Spelling is based on the Practice Your Spelling Program for Grade 4. As part of the Writing component, we do handwriting and Six Traits Writing. In addition to Home Reading of different genres monthly, novel studies include Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and Owls in  the Family.

Grade 4 News...

February 1, 2012

Happy leap or intercalary year! As we align our calendar year with the solar year, we enjoy one more day this month.

Our class newsletter went home today. Our new Home Reading assignment was also explained. This month’s genre is Fantasy Fiction. Students may select a book from the class library or one from their home libraries. Students need to complete their book before the 29th and bring their book with them to help them complete the assignment. Students who complete the practice assignment page generally do better on the assignment.

Congratulations to Matthew, the winner of January’s Subway draw. The opportunities that students have to enter this draw come from academic, behavioural, and citizenship areas.
