About the Grade 2 Program...
Religion: discussions and activities that will deepen the experience of belonging to God and the celebration of the Eucharist. To encourage that we follow His ways and be teachers, showing love and kindness. Discuss experience and symbols of Communion and celebrate Church seasons/holidays.
Language Arts: students will be exposed to many activities to develop stronger writing skills, increase fluency and confidence. The year will incorporate weekly spelling tests, creative writing with "writer's workshop", weekly journals, phonetic activities, literacy center activities, home reading and buddy reading with older students. Language skills are used daily in many subjects.
Science: the strands covered in the program are: Solids, Liquids and Gases; Position and Motion; Air and Water; Growth and Changes in Animals. Students will explore the curriculm with hands-on experimentation, research and live specimens!
Social Studies: the strands covered in the program are: Our Local Community; Communities in Canada; The Canadian Community. The students will explore and identify different cultures, compare their community to other individuals, how people, events and ideas of the past shape the present and influence the future, and explore global interdependence and natural resources.
Math: the strands covered in the program are: Patterns and Relations; Statistics and Probability; Measurement; Number/Number Operations. The students will be exposed to activities that will develop sorting skills, develop measuring skills using standard and nonstandard measuring tools, develop larger pattern skills, develop stronger number sense, understanding of place value, work on two-digit addition with regrouping.
Gym: students receive a 40 minute period of gym each school day.
Music: students receive a 40 minute period of Music each 6 day cycle.

St. Emile School uses agenda planners as a tool for students to keep track of assignments and it is also a great communication tool for parents.
