About the Grade 1 Program...
Welcome to Grade One!
Grade One is such an amazing year as the children discover the joy and confidence in reading. It opens their minds to new and exciting worlds. The Grade One program at St. Emile School combines the world of reading with a sense of belonging to God and community. We use an eclectic approach to learning which includes group work, projects, phonics, math and language centers with games, formal printing, creative writing, hands on science and social studies, as well as amazing art. Some of the many topics that are covered through the year involve detailed exploration of the five senses; responsibilities at home, school and community; traditions and cultural diversity; seasonal changes; shelter, homes and habitats; characteristics of materials and mapping.
The children are delightfully eager to learn and a pleasure to teach.
