Principal's Message
May is Mother’s Day month, which this year takes place on Sunday, May 13, honoring all mothers including Mary, Mother of the Church! May is also a very busy time of the year at St. Emile School!
The Grade 7 Garage Sale this past Saturday, May 5th, was a great success once again. It’s held annually to raise money for the classroom’s annual camping trip. A special thanks to the Grade 7 students, their parents, grandparents and families who were able to volunteer their time and give their support to this fundraiser! Kudos need to go out to staff team members - Miss Nicole Schilling and Mrs. Marcy Saunders - for organizing the event with the many parent volunteers who worked so hard to make it happen! The Grade 7 class will have a fun and exciting time at Camp Nutimik thanks to everyone who helped and supported this event!
Our annual Bike-a-thon is quickly approaching on Friday, May 18th at St. Vital Park! Our Parents’ Association (PA) plans the entire event. It’s always a great school community builder as well as being the largest school fundraiser of the year. Many resources and program extras for students are possible because of the funds raised through this event! Parents, guardians, grandparents, family members and friends are all encouraged to attend if they can and join us for lunch compliments of the PA!
Our annual Volunteer Celebration this year is being held on Wednesday, May 23rd! This special event is an opportunity for students and staff to show appreciation and give thanks to the many volunteers who give their time and efforts throughout the school year at St. Emile. Parents, guardians, family members and friends of St. Emile, who did any kind of volunteering for the school during this current school year are automatically invited to attend this special event! Students are the featured “entertainers” and will also be serving refreshments to those “volunteers” able to attend.
Canadian author, Eric Walters, will be visiting St. Emile School students on Thursday, May 24 at 1 p.m. Eric Walters has become a very popular author of children’s literature worldwide! He has written more than 60 books, including titles such as When Elephants Fight, Just Deserts and Safe as Houses. In fact, the Gr. 7 classroom’s latest novel Sketches was written by Eric Walters!
Eric is very passionate about helping others. He founded and runs “The Creation of Hope”, an organization dedicated to providing care for orphans in the Mbooni district of Kenya. Presently over 400 orphans are being provided with services which include food, school fees, uniforms, tools, beds, livestock and the construction of two children’s residences in the town of Kikima. Eric’s presentation will focus on aspects of the writing process and he will speak on “The Creation of Hope”, as well as his powerful book “When Elephants Fight”. We are looking forward to an exciting afternoon with Eric! School community members are welcome to attend.
Appreciation and thanks goes out to Mrs. Rosemary Hollett for organizing Mr. Walter’s visit. A very special thanks to the PA for funding this special event!
Happy Mothers’ Day on May13th to all our current mothers, any mothers-to-be and to those mothers who are now home with the Lord, for the impact they have had in our lives!
Yours in Christ,
Bill Yaworsky
